Access Initiative
About the Initiative
The Frontline Training Access Initiative (FTAI) was created to address a growing gap in law enforcement training access for rural and under-resourced agencies.

Across many communities, officers are responding to increasingly complex situations involving mental health crises, developmental disabilities, autism, trauma, vulnerable individuals, and community trust challenges — often with limited access to specialized training opportunities. Smaller agencies frequently face barriers such as restricted budgets, staffing shortages, travel limitations, and reduced access to high-quality professional development.

FTAI exists to help close that gap.

Our mission is to bring practical, high-quality, and evidence-informed training directly to the agencies and communities that need it most. Through partnerships, grant funding, scholarships, and collaborative training opportunities, FTAI works to expand access to education that helps officers strengthen communication, improve crisis response, and better serve vulnerable populations.

The initiative focuses on real-world, relationship-centered training that officers can immediately apply in the field. Topics include mental health response, de-escalation, autism and developmental disabilities, officer wellness, trauma-informed communication, and community engagement.

FTAI believes that a department’s size, location, or budget should not determine whether its officers have access to meaningful professional development. By increasing training access for underserved agencies, the initiative aims to support safer interactions, stronger communities, and better outcomes for both officers and the individuals they serve.

Who We Serve
Why Access Matters
Training access should not depend on a department's size or location.
When agencies receive practical, high-quality education:
-
Crisis interactions improve
-
Communication improves
-
Unnecessary escalation decreases
-
Vulnerable individuals are better understood
-
Community trust strengthens
-
Officers feel more prepared and supported
Community Collaboration
FTAI believes meaningful training requires collaboration between law enforcement and community stakeholders.

We welcome opportunities to collaborate with schools, advocacy groups, healthcare organizations, public safety agencies, and other community organizations.
